Norma Triche Memorial Youth Basketball Clinic

August 1-5, 2011:

A great wound in our society is the loss of adults (especially males) investing in the lives of our youth (especially boys). This ministry connects adults with youth in a coach / player relationship. The primary role of the coach is to encourage and respect the players and the primary role of the player is to build strength, skill, and character in themselves and through teamwork, in one another. As one person once said, “It isn’t about basketball!” In this ministry we use the context of sports and the dynamics that are a natural part of the game; for example, committing oneself to practice, setting personal and team goals, overcoming adversity, practicing sportsmanship, playing as a team, believing in yourself, your coach and your teammates.  The ultimate goal is to empower young people to become strong, dignified and compassionate men and women.

Established in 2006, Howard Triche leads this week long basketball camp, which is named in his mother's honor.

Howard donates his time along with his wife Roslynne. Four coaches (two male and two female) Howard,

SU basketball players and volunteers assist the coaching staff.

The 2011 Norma Triche Memorial Youth Basketball Clinic was held August 1-5, 2011 at the Southwest Community Center.

Suggested donation $49 for the entire week.

Please see 'Resources' link for application materials.
