Worship & Education

Sunday Worship Service

We worship Sunday mornings at 10 am

in a style that is a comfortable blend

between traditional and contemporary.

Each service invites worship through scripture

reading, prayer, music and song, and contemplation.

Our sermons aim to nurture both head and heart.

Children may stay with their families or make use

of the nursery. There is a special time for children in

every worship service.

Join in a time of fellowship after the service!

Educational Opportunities

Sunday School classes are offered for all ages from 11:15 am-12:15 pm after the worship service every Sunday. Classes include:

Children and Worship: A unique program designed for children ages 3 (by the end of September) through 1st grade. This is a place where children worship together. During Children in Worship, students hear the word of God and respond to it just as adults do in their worship service. Visit the Children and Worship page to learn more.

3rd grade through 6th grade: A rotating program of Bible Study, mission education, music, drama and the arts! Explore and interact with both Old and New Testament stories while learning the basics of our faith.

Junior & Senior High School: Our Junior and Senior High School age students have a class just for them which focuses on discussion of faith and real life issues. Beginning Sept. 2011, students will be learning what it means to be a part of the Reformed tradition. Our young adults will explore what they believe and why. At the end of the Sunday School year, students will be presented with the opportunity to join the Reformed Church of Syracuse if they so choose.

Adults: Adults can choose between 2 Sunday morning electives:

Pastor Lucie's Adult Class will begin the Sunday School year with a five week study based on John Ortberg's The Me I Want to Be. Ortberg says, "The most important task in life is not what you do but who you become! There is a me each one of us wants to be. Someone who's more kind and gracious, patient and loving, but there is a gap between the me I am and the one I want to be. Oftentimes we find it easy to trust God to bridge the gap between us and Him, but we struggle to really live by grace and trust God to close the gap between the me I am and the me I want to be. Becoming God's best version of you is both God's desire and the greatest task of your life. And here's the good news: God is already working on it! Your life is His project, not yours!" Join us as we grow together in this study beginning on Sept. 25.

Mike Byers' class returns to their study of Max Lucado's When God Whispers Your Name. Join this class for lively discussions based on this book. Lucado writes, "Somewhere, between the pages of this book and the pages of your heart, God is speaking. And He is calling you by name. So listen closely. Listen for the Father’s gentle whisper that can erase your doubts, your sorrows, your weariness, your despair." The book generates the confidence to believe that God will keep you headed in the right direction and will help you find hope in life's ordinary events.

Small Group Study: The RCS continues its study of EXODUS. A small group began an in-depth study of the Children of Israel as they returned to the promised land last fall. This fall, we continue to travel with them in the desert. The class returns to Thursday nights from 7 until 8:30 pm. Class dates are September 22, October 13 and 27, November 10 and December 15.

Adult Choir

All teens and adults who are interested in singing are invited to join the choir, which begins its fall season on Thursday, Sept. 8 at 7:30 pm. Thereafter, Choir will meet on the first Thursday of each month for rehearsals as well as at 9 am on Sunday mornings before worship. Near the holidays, there may be an extra rehearsal or two. The choir sings each Sunday morning during the 10 am worship service during September through June.

Children's Chorus

The Children's Chorus is specifically designed for youth ages 3-18. All youth are invited and encouraged to join us at the start of the Sunday School hour (11:15 am) in Crounse Hall where we seek to sing traditional and current worship songs while making a joyful noise to the Lord by using their gifts and talents.

Tenative Dates for 2011-2012: This year the Children's Chorus is tentatively planning on participating in the worship service on December 11, February 12, April 1 and May 20.

Men's Ministry

Adult men can join together on Saturday mornings twice per month for "Journeymen" at 7:30 am. This is a time of fellowship, study, and spiritual growth for men of the church.
