THE NORTH SIDE LEARNING CENTER

The North Side Learning Center opened its doors in 2009, and offered its first English language classes for children of all ages and adults of varying English language skills on October 13, 2009. The NSLC offers 10 classes and serves over 150 refugees from more than 20 countries, including Burma, Somalia, Iraq, Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Thailand, Congo, Mauritania, Cuba, Dominican Republic, and Uganda. These students live in and around the North Side community of Syracuse, NY.

The NSLC is powered by its volunteers. The Center is run by teachers, tutors, mentors, and administrative staff who give themselves and their time to make the Center a place for refugee and immigrant families to learn in a welcoming environment.
